Amin
Tarokh was born in Shiraz where he completed his primary and
secendary education. He graduted from the Performing Arts Faculty of the
Univercity of Tehran in 1977, and completed his post-graduate studies in 1984
with an M.A. in Cultural Management. He has worked as a free-lane actor in Iran
for twenty-five years, and has played leading roles in numerous films. theatre
productions, and television series. He has participated in countless national
film festivals both as an artist, and as a member of the official judging
panels. He has been an invited guest at film festivals in Moscow, Japan and
germany.
In 1944, he established the Film
Acting Studio in Tehran, which is the leading training institution for film
actors in Iran. Graduates from his school have won 6 awards as leading and
supporting actors. In 2000, the Film Acting Atudio began to make links with
other international traning schools, and Amin Tarokh was invited to join the
FGlinders Drama Center of South Australia as a visiting professor. The first
student exchange between the Film Acting Studio and the Flinders Drama Centre is
scheduled for mid-2001.
Since 1997. Tarokh has become a
leading figure in the revival of Iranian theatre: he was requested by the
Ministry of Culture to act as a member of the jury of the 18th International
Fajr Film Festival, and as the artistic director of the 19th International fajr
Theatre festival.
